The Zambia Air Services Training Institute offers four (4) Rescue and Fire services programmes; Basic Fire Fighters course, Leading Fire Fighters course, Assistant Fire Fighters course and Fire Officers course.

Rescue and Fire Officers graduates will become specialists whose interests will inadvently cover a wide range of scientific, technological, socialogical, management and legal problems. It is expected that trainees that have gone through this programme should be able to manage rescue and fire services proficiently.

The principle aims of the Certificate in Rescue and Fire Services programme provided by the Zambia Air Services Training Institute are as follows:

  • Saving life in the event of an accident or life threatening incidents
  • Save property, which is threatened by desruction brought about by raging fires
  • Offer humanitarian services
  • Sensitize the public about fire safety
  • Provide practical and realistic approach to discharge of duties by trained personnel
  • Provide skilled rescue and Fire fighters
  • Provide skilled officers in fire safety management


Full Grade Twelve (12) Certificate with Credits in Five (5) subjects, which include Physics/Physical Science, Mathematics, and English language. Candidates need to be proven medically fit by qualified medical personnel.


A Certificate in Rescue and Fire Services will be awarded by the Zambia Air Services Training Instituteafter successful completion of the Rescue and Fire Services course.


Students are assessed in Practicals - 20%, Continuous Assessment - 20%, Final Examinations - 60%. The total assessment marks being 100%.


The durations of the courses from commencement date are as follows:

  • Basic Fire Fireters course - 10 Weeks.
  • Leading Fire Fihters course - 10 Weeks
  • Assistant Fire Fighters course - 8 Weeks
  • Station Fire Officers course - 8 Weeks
