Air Traffic Management education focuses on imparting students the knowledge and skills necessary to Air Traffic Services and undergo On-the-Job-Training under the supervision of a licensed ATCO for the issue of an aerodrome ATC license in Aerodrome Control, Approach Control and Area Control units to qualify as an Air Traffic Management Officer.

The programme is highly intense as a bulk of theoretical knowledge compacted within a relatively short duration and exaggerated practical simulations are beyond the normal controlling scenarios, for the purpose of producing cream of personnel who will be orderly and expeditious in the discharging of Air Traffic Services. Hence the programme is segmented into different levels of learning order to achieve the best results achieve. Air Traffic Management also produces working personal is other filed such as Aeronautical Information Officers, Rescue and Search Officers, Aircraft Accident Investigators, Flight Marshallers and Flight Dispatchers.

This programme will strive to develop in the professional a capability for innovation and a passion for continuous training. The curriculum thus developed will reflect the spirit as contained in the rationale statement and when implemented will satisfy the professional demands of the industry and academies. The graduates will be adequately equipped to exploit the opportunities and face the challenges offered by the dynamic and fast-growing industry.

  • Objectives of Programme
    • The objectives in this subject are aimed at ensuring that learners have a comprehensive understanding of the training programme that they will be following and that they are aware of how and where to obtain information and assistance during the course.
    • The objectives also ensure that the learners are acquainted with the assessment process for the training.
    • The objective of this course is to prepare a trainee for the training at an ATC unit. This involves acquiring theoretical and practical training designed to impact knowledge, skills and attitudes related to basic air traffic operations.
    • The course will enable a learner to progress to rating training. The learners will have an overall appreciation and some exposure to all ATC ratings.
    • The training includes uncomplicated practical objectives for the performance of Aerodrome Control and Approach and Area Control surveillance tasks.
  • Minimum Entry Requirements
    • A full Grade twelve (12) Certificate with 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics, Geography and Physical Science.
    • Be at least 18 years of age.
    • Class 3 Medical Certificate issued by an approved Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).

    • The duration for the programme is six (6) weeks.

Rescue and Fire Service

Rescue and Firefighting Service are specialized operations and their successful delivery in any country demands for a wide range of Scientific, Technological, Social, Management and Legal competence. In every country the Rescue and Firefighting Service is the anchor of industrial and business in relation to safety and other calamities that may come. The program of training offered by Zambia Air Services Training Institute in rescue and firefighting aims at production of multi skilled personnel to meet industrial needs.

  • Objectives of Programme
    • Save life in an event of accident or any life threatening incidences.
    • To prevent property from destruction by fire.
    • To render humanitarian services as may be required by the service.
    • To sensitize the public about fire safety.
  • Minimum Entry Requirements
      • Basic Fire Fighting
        • Full Grade XII Certificate or GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate with Merits in Mathematics and Science (Physical Science or Physics) Credit in English Language and any other related two subjects (i.e., Technical Drawing, Geography, Metalwork, or Chemistry).
        • Must pass the aptitude test.
        • Must be medically fit.
      • Leading Fire Fighting
        • GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate or equivalent with at least Credits in Mathematics, English Language and Science (Physical Science or Physics).
        • Be at least 25 years of age. Must pass aptitude test.
        • Must have work experience of at least two years in related industry.
      • Assistant Fire Officer
        • GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate or equivalent with at least Credits in Mathematics, English Language and Science (Physical Science or Physics).
        • Be at least 25 years of age. Must pass aptitude test.
        • Must have work experience of at least two years in related industry.
      • Fire Officer
        • GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate or equivalent with at least Credits in Mathematics, English Language and Science (Physical Science or Physics).
        • Be at least 25 years of age. Must pass aptitude test.
        • Must have work experience of at least two years in related industry.
  • Duration
    • The duration for Basic Fire Fighting is ten (10) weeks, Leading Fire Fighting ten (10) weeks, Assistant Fire Fighting eight (8) weeks and Fire Officers course is eight (8) weeks.
  • Certification
    • Upon successful completion, candidates shall be awarded a Certificate in Fire And Rescue Service by Zambia Air Services Training Services Institute (ZASTI).
Meteorology

Meteorology is a science that studies the atmosphere. In Meteorology the governing forces that cause air motion, the Physical characteristics of the atmosphere, aerosols and all other atmospheric interactions that result in daily weather and climate are studied.

  • Objectives of Programme
    • Make accurate weather observations
    • Correctly disseminate weather parameters
    • Correctly analyse weather data
    • Make accurate weather forecasts
    • Be able to correctly give weather briefings and other services
  • Minimum Entry Requirements
    • A full grade 12 certificate or its equivalent with at least five credits in English, Mathematics, Physics/Physical science and any other two subjects.
    • Must be medically fit.
    • A certificate in meteorology will be an added advantage for those perusing the Diploma program.

    • The duration for the programme is three (3) years.
