The Pilot Training School was commissioned in 1969. The development of this training facility has made Zambia self-sufficient in meeting its requirements for pilots. This is accomplished through the engagement of highly qualified and experienced Instructors. Over the last 50 years, the Private Pilot training school has trained pilots for Zambia and the region.Zambia Air Services Training Institute currently offers accredited training in Private Pilot Licence.

The school has highly experienced instructors for both flight and ground trainings. In addition, ZASTI has equipped itself with all the necessary facilities: aircrafts (Cesena 152) and well equipped ground classrooms and computer based training room. The syllabus is developed based on Zambian Civil Aviation Authority Requirements and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Requirements. ZASTI Private Pilot Licence training follows a well-organized and logically sequenced integrated syllabus for the ground and flight training. The theoretical Knowledge Courses comprise a total time of 170 class hours.

• Objectives of Programme

  • A Private Pilot License course (PPL) is a type of license that allows a holder to act as a Pilot-In-Command (PIC) of an aircraft.
  • The license requirements are determined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the minimum required hours for one to hold a PPL is 45.
  • A holder of a PPL cannot get employed as a Pilot for remuneration purposes but it’s the first step to a Commercial Pilot License. The minimum age that one can get a PPL is 17years and there is no maximum age

• Minimum Entry Requirements

  • Full Grade Twelve (12) Certificate with Credits in Five (5) subjects, which include Physics/Physical Science, Geography, Mathematics, and English language
  • Candidates need to be proven medically fit by qualified Aviation medical Doctor.

• Duration

  • The duration for the programme is six (6) months.

• Certification

  • Upon successful completion, candidates shall be awarded a Licence in Private Pilot Training by the Zambia Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
